January 26: (I)-Reverend James Evans (1803-1846), the Wesleyan Missionary, with wife (I)-Mary Blyth Smith and sixteen year old daughter (II)-Clarissa, arrived Fort Chipewyan from Norway House with his interpreter Thomas Hassel a Chipewyan, his man servant and Young Blondin Pepin and Sylvester from Fort Vermillion (Alberta). So reports Colin Campbell who had a wife and a family of nine girls and three boys. Their eldest was Anne b-1829, age 13.

February 13: Fort Chipewyan, marriage, Thomas Hassel, a Chipewyan to Betsy Sinclair, a visitor at Fort Chipewyan are married by (I)-Reverend James Evans (1803-1846).

March: Lesser Slave Lake (Alberta), birth, Peter Andrews, son Baptiste Andrews and Catherine Gladu; married Jilu 3, 1870 Lesser Slave Lake (Alberta) Adele Lechasseur (Etenisekwegen), b-1850, White Fish Lake, Athabasca, daughter, Nitaousiquayo Lechasseur, a native and Marianne Calahaison.

June 19: Father Jean Baptiste Thibeault (Thibault), an Oblate (Order of Mary Immaculate,OMI) from St. Boniface, arrived at Fort Edmonton to cover the same territory as Reverend Rundle. He had come overland in a Red River Cart being led by a Metis guide. Bishop Provercifer commissioned him to evangelize the wild Indians and half-breeds in the West. He met Piche, the Metis, at Fort Edmonton where 80 Metis resided. He baptized 353 children at Devil's Lake (Lac Ste Anne) and married 20 couples. A year or so later he would establish a mission at Lac Ste Anne to serve that growing fishing community. Thibault wrote that when the last buffalo was dead, it would be possible to attempt something on the Prairies. Henry Le Froy, a surveyor, recorded, at Fort Edmonton, that John Rowand (1787-1854), the Roman Catholic, had finally married his Indian girl, Louis Umphreville. After four months Father Thibault returned to St. Boniface.

July 18: Fort des Prairies (Edmonton, Alberta), marriage Louis Leblanc to Angelique Vallee, b-1822 daughter Antoine Vallee and Susanne Lefebvre.

September 12: Fort des Prairies (Fort Edmonton, Alberta), marriage Francois Villeneuve, b-1825, Quebec married (married country style 1835) to Helene Vallee, b-1828 daughter Antoine Vallee and Susanne Lefebvre.

September 19: Francois Lussier, Metis, b-1799, son Francois Lussier and a Metis woman; married September 19, 1842, Fort des prairies (Edmonton, Alberta), Louise Bruneau, Metis, daughter Jean Baptiste Bruneau and Cree Woman.

September 19: Fort des Prairies (Edmonton, Alberta), marriage, Antoine Gouin, 1st married Marie Blondeau, 2nd marriage September 19, 1842, Fort des Prairies (Alberta), Francoise Boucher, Metis, b-1814 daughter Joseph Boucher and Marguerite Dupis, Metis, b-1802.

Patrick Prudin, Metis b-1843 Saskatchewan married about 1867 Alberta Elizabeth Metis b-1846 Alberta living Alberta 1867 to 1890, living Lakeland eastern Alberta 1891.

Theophile Villeneuve, b-1843, Fort Edmonton married Elizabeth McGillis, Metis b-1841.

Donald Whitford, Metis b-1843 Red River married about 1878 Alberta most likely Trail Creek Margret Metis b-1853 Alberta living Trail Creek, (Alberta) 1901.

Father M. Thibeault visited Devil's Lake, so named by the Metis, or some referred to it as Manitou (Spirit) Lake, renamed Lake Saint Anne. There were about forty houses occupied by Metis, Cree, Assiniboine and Blackfoot. John Rowand (1787-1854) could see little value in missionaries. He wrote that the worst thing for trade is these ministers and priests because the natives will never work half so well now since they like praying and singing. Mr. Thingheaute (Thibeault) is allowed to go back to Saskatchewan. We shall all be saints, after a time. Rundle says that all Catholics will go to hell. For himself, he is sure of going strait to heaven when he dies, but he longs to find a wife.

James Douglas with 15 men began building Fort Camosun (Victoria), Vancouver Island. Father Bolduc also arrived about this time.

Veronique Batard, b-1844, Lesser Slave Lake (Alberta) daughter Eto-we-ka-poe Batard and Marie Rose She-nas-ka-mik-ppew; married, 1864, Slave Lake, Joseph Mahkass.

Fathers LaFleche and Bourassa, Oblates, establish a mission at the Metis Devil's Lake village and change the name to Lake St. Anne after Ste Anne De Beaupe. Some suggest that the natives called the lake Manito Sakahigan, the Divine Lake or God's Lake.

Jean Belcourt, born March, 1844 son Joseph Belcourt, d-1863 and Catherine L'Hyrondelle, b-1793, Lesser Slave Lake; married 1865, Lac Ste Anne (Alberta), Olive Callio, Metis, b-1852, Fort Edmonton daughter Michel Callio, Metis, born October 1, 1923, Lesser Slave Lake (Alberta), died April 6, 1911 and Marie Savard (1828-1869).

Father Bourassa the Oblate was surprised to discover that a number of Iroquois who's ancestors were from Caughnawaga near Montreal was living among the Metis and Indians at Devils Lake (Lac Ste Anne).

Xenia suggests Louise Frobisher's mother is a Maskegan (Swampy Cree) and not Charlotte Joubert.

Father J.B. Thibeault (Thibault) and Father Bourassa started building a mission at Devil Lake (Lac Ste Anne). Governor (I)-George Simpson (1787-1860) wrote that the priests are not allowed to trade except for provisions. Thibault is requested to "avoid as far as in him lies that collision of creeds which is as unnecessary in so wide a country as it is inexpedient among so ignorant a race." Father Thibault visited Lac La Biche des Metis (Alberta) and Cold Lake (Alberta). Simpson wrote: "with respect to Mr. Thibault, I saw very little of him -- but quite enough." He would later write: "I wish Thibault was in his mother's belly."
